In May 2018, police in Springfield, Massachusetts attempted to stop a car for a broken taillight. Instead of pulling over, the driver led officers on a dangerous chase.

When police finally arrested 40-year-old Stewart Weldon, they discovered a severely injured woman tied up inside the vehicle. What initially looked like a kidnapping case soon revealed something far more horrifying.

The House Of Secrets

The rescued victim told investigators she had been held captive in Weldon's basement for nearly a month. The room was reportedly soundproofed.

She described repeated torture, sexual violence, and physical abuse that left her covered in injuries. But the real shock came after police searched the house.

Inside the basement, they discovered the decomposing body of a missing woman. Then they found another body buried beneath the garage. And another beneath a backyard shed.

More Than One Victim

As the investigation expanded, more women came forward. Several survivors reported being lured to Weldon's home with drugs before being imprisoned and abused.

Investigators eventually connected him to eleven victims in total, including three women who were murdered. Most of the victims shared one tragic similarity: they were struggling with addiction and were specifically targeted because they were vulnerable.

Suspicious

"If that taillight had never been broken, how many more victims would there have been?"

One detail continued to disturb investigators. Weldon committed many of his crimes while living in the same house as his mother.

According to prosecutors, he went to extraordinary lengths to hide evidence from her while continuing to kidnap and torture women inside the home. The question many people still ask is simple: how could such horrific crimes remain hidden for so long?

Final Thoughts

Some serial killers hunt their victims in secret. Stewart Weldon allegedly built an entire world beneath his home to control them.

What began as a routine traffic stop exposed years of violence, captivity, and murder that had remained hidden underground.
